Membership in SPE is an investment in technology. It's an investment in the future
of the industry. And most importantly, it's an investment in your career. The

For more than 50 years, SPE has been the technical and professional home for
those engaged in all aspects of the upstream oil and gas industry. The common
bond of SPE members is the sharing of knowledge that keeps the E&P industry
sustainable.
Worldwide, 92,000+ engineers, scientists, managers and academicians in 100+ countries
have joined the member-run Society. All have access to the breadth of member benefits
– many online and all unique to SPE.
Although engineers are the core of SPE’s membership, not all SPE members are
engineers. Solving the industry’s challenges requires a multidisciplinary effort,
and SPE is a place for all today’s industry professionals, regardless of experience
or course of study. Therefore, all who works in areas such as facilities, management,
information technology, environmental and safety issues will find a home in SPE.

Requirements for professional membership
The requirements for optaining a professional membership are as follows:
- Employment in work related to the petroleum industry
AND one of the following:
- A university degree equivalent to a 4-year Bachelors Degree in engineering or
basic or applied sciences.
- A 2-year science or engineering degree or a 4-year degree in a field other than
science or engineering
- 6 years of active practice in support of the petroleum engineering or in the
application of science to the petroleum industry
Requirements for student membership
- Must be enrolled in a course of study leading to an undergraduate or graduate
degree in petroleum engineering or related field
- Must be carrying at least 30% of a normal full-time academic load
Updating member profile and renewal of membership
Your membership needs to be renewed annually. You will receive notice from the
SPE when your membership is due for renewal. If you have changed your contact
information, or if you are not receiving information from the SPE, your profile
might be due for an update. Please ensure that the SPE has your up-to-date contact
information at all times.
This applies for all members, including student members.
